Little House on the Prairie

i remember to day i moved to new york city, June 2006... something like this is kind of a big deal for me, being born and raised in chicago. the folks from the midwest are settlers and, well, i am a midwesterner. i hate to generalize, but it's kind of true. a hundred years may have pasted, but the attitude is still laura ingalls, little house on a prairie. the houses look newer and the builds are taller, but the people are the same, just a different generation of settlers.

the day i moved to new york my friend and i rented a semi-truck. my friend jason was moving to philly and i was moving to new york so it kind of worked out. we loaded up the truck with our stuff in glenview and took i-94. yeah, my parents moved out to the burbs by the time i was 11. we took i-94 so we could drive through the city for the last time. in the tri-state area by new york city, the city is manhattan, but in the midwest, it's chicago. took me a few months to stop thinking chicago whenever anyone said, the city.

we drove over indiana, you don't want to drive through it, through ohio and pennsylvania. i help jason move into his apartment in philly, which was really outside of philly. it was in this building that smelled like mothballs and a thrift store. he eventually moved, hahaha. then i was on my way to "the city".

i remember taking lincoln tunnel, which openned right out to time square. the sky was already dark, but not time square. it was lit up like the 4th of july. i took a picture with my phone and then called my friend jason to tell him i made it.
